The energy efficiency measures Sewer will save almost 860,000 euros a year in electricity bills (30/08/2016)

The biggest savings is concentrated in street lighting, where the actions proposed will reduce spending 715,478 euros per year, representing 73 percent of the current cost

The Instituto de Fomento (Info) has carried out within the Elena-Fuensanta (European Local Energy Assistance) project of the European Commission, respective energy audits on public lighting system Sewer and energy consumption in municipal buildings.

After analysis, audits propose a series of energy efficiency measures that will allow the council save 859,516 euros a year in electricity bills.

The general director of Info, Javier Celdrán, energy audits today presented the mayor of Sewell, Joaquín Buendía, and highlighted the work of the consistory in helping to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

"Elena-Fuensanta project is a real commitment from government, and particularly local, the fight against climate change," said Javier Celdrán, and specified that "the City Sewer is one of 14 municipalities it participates in this project that has facilitated to carry out 18 energy efficiency initiatives, which have resulted in a more than nine million euros investment, "he said.

Audits analyze the energy behavior of the main municipal buildings and public lighting of the city, and intend to make a number of improvements in lighting systems and thermal systems that will mean a reduction of CO2 emissions by 1,206 tons, equivalent to having a forest with an area of ​​60 football fields.

Specifically, we have analyzed the public lighting system, which has 8,305 points of light and is a next cost one million euros per year, and all facilities in the municipality, they have collected all consumption data and revised contracts supplies each.

Regarding the public lighting system has been proposed to revise the supply contracts and the passage of the luminaires to LED technology.

These measures involve most of the savings in the municipality, so that the electricity bill would be reduced by 715,478 euros per year, accounting for 73.33 percent of the current cost.

As for municipal buildings they have been proposed a number of measures in five major buildings in the municipality, such as the Town Hall, the sports Jara Carrillo, running track, municipal pool and the Police and Fire center.

Specifically, have been executed in the sports facilities, large consumers of energy, where energy savings achieved in the running track through remote management systems and track lighting with projectors high efficiency and insulation measures involving an investment highlights of 138,800 euros and that will achieve savings of 42.65 percent.

In the Town Hall, the renewal of air conditioning, improved insulation and airtightness and the implementation of a management system and telemetry, and indoor lighting high efficiency, involving an investment of 75,719 euros, a figure that the projected savings would be amortized over 3 years.

In total, the adoption and implementation of these measures would involve an investment of 3,613,000 euros, most of them for the public lighting system, which would be recovered over a period of 4 years.
