[Almost a hundred people participate in the new campaign of the 'Libera Project' in Alcantarilla (15/03/2021)

Almost a hundred people participate in the new call for the 'Libera Project', which is being developed in Alcantarilla, in order to raise awareness among the population about the environmental consequences of garbage abandoned in natural spaces and about the importance to sort waste.

It is an initiative of the City Council in collaboration with Ecoembes and the Spanish Ornithological Society (SEO Birdlife).

With this, there are 23 campaigns that have been carried out in Alcantarilla in the three years that the Libera Project has been developing.

The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, participated in the call today, together with a group of teachers and students from the Eusebio Martínez Special Education School, and stressed that "it is necessary to make the neighbors aware of the need not to throw garbage or objects into the natural areas of the municipality, because they do not disappear by themselves, keeping the spaces clean is the responsibility of all the sewers ".

The project remains open to new registrations for volunteers who want to participate, until next Sunday, March 21.

To participate it is necessary to send an email to alcantarillarecicla@ayto-alcantarilla.es indicating the name, surname, ID and telephone number of each participant.

The motto of this call is '1m2 for rivers, reservoirs and swamps'.

More than 100 people participated in the last collection of the Libera Project in Alcantarilla, who classified more than 300 kilos of waste in the areas of Cabezo Verde, Agua Salá and Las Tejeras.

In 2019 there were 200 volunteers who collaborated in five collections.

The Libera Project is based on three lines of action: knowledge, in which a characterization of the collected remains is carried out and the importance of 'The 4 R's' (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Collect) is taught; prevention, which emphasizes the need to keep natural environments clean; and participation, one of the keys to ending garbage in nature, mountains, beaches, rivers, reservoirs and swamps.
