[The restoration works of the Alcantarilla Aqueduct are finished (19/01/2021)

| In the coming weeks, the architectural complex will have an ornametal lighting system with the possibility of varying the tonality of the lights | This week the restoration works of the Alcantarilla Aqueduct have finished, which have consisted of repairing the damage, the reconstruction of the completely damaged areas, the deep cleaning and the replacement of some pieces for others more in keeping with the environment.

Specifically, the irrigation canal has been repaired, leaks and moisture stains have been eliminated, the masonry on both facades has been cleaned and two pipes have been installed to channel the water and replace the side siphons.

The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaqun Buenda, explained that "we have restored the monument as faithfully as possible to integrate it into the historical-artistic complex of the Aqueduct Park, respecting the original construction and its good functioning, since it is currently in use for irrigation ".

The reinforced concrete siphons, which were located at both ends of the Aqueduct, have also been replaced by two pipes integrated into the environment to transport the water from the waterwheel to the lands of Cabezo de la Rueda.

These two pieces were added to the ensemble in the second half of the 20th century to transfer the water raised by the Ferris wheel, "but their construction and the material used did not match the rest of the environment and caused a visual impact that with the Pipes are attenuated, without losing the effectiveness in the transfer of water ", added the mayor.

The works have involved a total investment of 134,500 euros, of which the City Council has contributed 34,500 and the Ministry of Education and Culture about 100,000.

In addition, the City Council has restored the sides of the Noria and has thoroughly cleaned the remains of lime and vegetation that had appeared over time, coinciding with the repair works on the wheel that has carried out the Board of Landowners of the Huerta de Murcia.

Illumination and last phase In the coming weeks, the City Council will install an ornamental lighting system for the architectural complex, which is equipped with LED projectors and RGB light control to vary the tonality.

The projectors will be placed respecting the structure of the historical-artistic complex and will be turned on every night at the same time as the lighting of the city.

"The lighting system will give spectacular visibility to the monument and now only the last phase of the Aqueduct Park remains, with the installation of the gardens, the promenade, the restoration of the canal and the shadow ", stressed Buenda.

Aqueduct Park The Aqueduct and the Noria, together with the Museum of the Garden, the recently built auditorium, the playground for children, the skate park, the calisthenics training area, the Roman site from the 1st and 3rd centuries AD, the ditch and the green areas that surround it, form the Aqueduct Park in an area of ??25,000 square meters declared an Area of ??Cultural Interest, due to the great heritage value of its architectural elements.
