The City of Alcantarilla stands in front of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (21/01/2020)

The City of Alcantarilla has appealed to the Superior Court of Justice of Murcia two sanctions of 2018 of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS).

These are files 189/2018 (with water samples from November 29 and December 11, 2017) and 432/2018 (with water samples from September 8 and 15, October 14 and December 31, 2018).

The resources were presented by the City Council in June and September 2019 and with them the CHS was requested to copy the sanctioning files, which has not yet been delivered.

The Councilor for City Development and Historical Heritage, Laura Sandoval, explained that "we are tired of the days of heavy rains the Confederation is dedicated to verify that the purification capacity is insufficient and water is poured into the river, and to present allegations that justify the impossibility of collecting and treating all the rainwater, and that they state that the CHS criteria have not been set either. "

Likewise, the councilor said that the City Council is not aware of any sanctions due to wastewater discharges into the river during the rains last October, "since the latest communiqués of which we have proof are from the CHS to the City Council with registration on September 10, 2019, and from the Water Commissary on November 20, where they reported control of wastewater discharge for the same day at 9:30 am, and of which we do not know the results. "

Alcantarilla, like many municipalities in the Region, has a wastewater treatment plant that allows the treatment of one hundred percent of these waters and their reuse by the Sangonera la Verde irrigators.

Sandoval said that "evidently the purification capacity is not unlimited. When periods of heavy rains arrive, the purification systems have planned spillways to the nearest basin. Thus, in the discharge authorization of the Sewage Treatment Plant of Sewer is reflected the existence of a by-pass to alleviate the Segura river, it is true that this relief must be carried out in compliance with the criteria for dilution of water established by the CHS or the Ministry on which it depends, but those criteria and the conditions under which water can be poured they have still been set by the Confederation. "

The City Development Councilor wonders what happens to the waters during heavy rains in the municipalities of Molina de Segura, Alguazas, Lorquí and Cieza, or so many others.
