700 Alcantarilla patients have already benefited from the Active Program, from the Ministry of Health, to promote physical activity and promote healthy behaviors and lifestyles, with the collaboration of Primary Care and City Council professionals.
In Alcantarilla this program was launched in 2012.
The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, signed today with the Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, the agreement for the renewal of this program for four years.
The patients, who are referred from the Alcantarilla-Casco and Alcantarilla-Sangonera Health Center, perform three days of physical activity a week, in the Magritas pavilion, run by professionals in order to improve their health and quality of life.
Monthly 25 people participate in this program.
The mayor stressed the good reception of this program, "which every year is more successful", and thanked "the commitment of the Ministry of Health with the municipality to maintain and bring the Active Program to the largest possible number of patients."
In addition, the municipality has participated, since 2016, in the 'Active-Families' plan with which the Ministry of Health complements the Comprehensive Plan of the Overweight and Obesity Child, designed by the Association of Outpatient Pediatrics and Primary Care of the Region of Murcia, in order to offer better coverage to sedentary children with overweight or obesity who are referred by their nurses or Primary Care pediatricians.
Since the Ministry launched the Active Program in 2010, 7,000 patients have participated throughout the Region, 550 doctors, 60 health centers and 28 municipalities.
Extension of the Alcantarilla-Sangonera Health Center
The mayor discussed with the counselor the expansion of the facilities of the Alcantarilla-Sangonera Health Center, with the transfer, by the City Council, of a plot of 264 square meters in which the Ministry of Health plans to build two or three plants, which would mean the expansion of the center around 700 meters, and that the municipality has a wider, more modern space with more and better services according to the present and future care needs of the residents of the municipality.
Alcantarilla, which has a population close to 42,000 inhabitants, belongs to the I-Murcia West Health Area.
It has two Health Centers, the Alcantarilla-Casco Health Center and the Alcantarilla-Sangonera Health Center, on which the peripheral offices of Barqueros and Sangonera la Seca depend, and in which more than 80 professionals serve.
In addition, it has a Primary Care Emergency Service (SUAP) and a Medical Emergency Unit with Advanced Life Support ambulance.
Its reference hospital is the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital.
