The PSOE requests the PP a report on the actions taken with ADIF for the recovery and rehabilitation of the train station of Alcantarilla-Villa (30/03/2019)

In the plenary session of January 2016, a motion was approved unanimously by all the municipal groups to stop the deterioration of the railway buildings, of which Wikipedia literally states the following: "This station of modernist architectural style of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth, is abandoned, dark and vandalized.

The PSOE has submitted a letter addressed to the PP Government team in which it requests, "as a matter of urgency", to provide a report that includes all the actions and procedures that ADIF has carried out, "in order to improve and recover the abandoned station of Alcantarilla-Villa ".

This instance has been processed by the socialist mayor Lara Hernández after a team of members of the Socialist Party moved to the railroad facilities, located in the middle of the urban center, and verified that the garbage accumulates without control by the surroundings, the walls of its three modernist buildings are eroded and plagued with graffiti and the area has become a point where young people make a bottle and some drug addicts use it to consume narcotics.

The objective of the letter presented by the PSOE is to check before the end of the legislature, the degree of compliance with the motion that was approved unanimously in the Plenary of January 2016. In that session was agreed with the votes of PSOE, Citizens, IU, Podemos and PP, that the City Council initiated the procedures to request the transfer of the facilities to its owner: the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF).

The motion also urged the government team to seek funding from the regional executive and the state and, in addition, to prepare an information project for rehabilitation and adaptation of the station, "to be included next to the house of José María Precioso, in the project of a new cultural center for our town with different multipurpose spaces and the Sewer railroad museum ".

Two years and three months after the aforementioned agreement, a team of the PSOE has been able to verify the situation of abandonment suffered by the installations in which the trains stopped stopping in 2002 and which in 2012 were definitively closed by the Ministry of Development.

The socialist delegation met with neighbors in the area, including some from Calle Tranvía, who defined the station in this way: "It has become a dunghill, it is very abandoned, it is a pity that it is full of garbage, dog and weeds. "

Such is its state of deterioration that the wrought iron of the roof of the dock is rusty and presents numerous cracks and the friends of the alien have taken the clock of the main platform and the plate of the National Geographic Institute.

In Wikipedia, the following is said verbatim from the Sewer-Villa station: "This station of modernist architectural style of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, is abandoned, dark and vandalized."

The digital encyclopedia administered by the Wikimedia Foundation adds that: "The surroundings are used to throw animal excrement, in short, the entire area of Entrevías-Norte, despite being a railway center not long ago, is currently in the process of strong marginality "

All residents of the area consulted by the socialist delegation agreed to claim "cleanliness" of the passenger building and the two auxiliary buildings.

Objective: give it a second life

The socialist candidate for mayor, Francisco Saavedra, has also visited the facilities to check its state of preservation.

"We can not allow an infrastructure like this to continue to deteriorate, which was a symbol of the strength of the canning industry in Alcantarilla and which was one of the main railway junctions in the Region with Madrid and Andalusia, as evidenced by the fact that in 1923 a train on his main platform His Majesty Alfonso XIII of Spain ".

Saavedra laments that "in the Wikipedia, an encyclopedia that receives millions of visits daily, derogatory comments of the station that affect the image of Sewer are collected".

The candidate advances that in the electoral program that is being elaborated will include in the section of infrastructures to address to ADIF "to negotiate the cession of this space during the next legislature, in exchange for that the City council takes charge of its maintenance".

Saavedra emphasizes that "the station could house a multipurpose center with exhibition and movie projection rooms, as well as spaces to develop theater workshops, new technologies and all kinds of leisure activities aimed at children, adolescents, adults and the elderly, so that the affluence of the public had a positive effect on the activity of the shops and hotel businesses in the area ".
