The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, the managing director of IMAS, Verónica López and the Colonel of the Air Base, Francisco Javier Fernández, showed their gratitude to the Association of Relatives of Patients of Alzheimer's Disease of Alcantarilla, for their commitment in the fight against Alzheimer's, under the slogan "Alzheimer's Social Concern"
Today, the Day Center of the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Disease Sewer AFADE, has opened its doors for the fourth year in a row to commemorate World Alzheimer's Day today and to inform the audience of a closer vision and real work that daily develop in it, in its various services.
In the first hour of this Open Door Day, the president of AFADE Alcantarilla, Julia Fernández, welcomed the authorities that had met, the director of IMAS (Murciano Institute of Social Action), Verónica López García, the mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía and the Councilor for Social Welfare and Health, Francisca Terol, along with other members of the Municipal Corporation, as well as the chief colonel of the Alcantarilla Air Base, Francisco Javier Fernández, who was pleasantly surprised during his first visit to the center surprised, along with representatives of different associations and collectives of the municipality and relatives of the users themselves.
A tremendously emotional morning, in the first place with the talk given by the social worker of the AFADE Alcantarilla Day Center, Rubén Carrión, about the importance of day centers for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and the leading role of the centers therapeutic in this treatment.
Leaving to the present numerical data of this already called "epidemic", in which 1,700,000 people are affected in Spain, being the third country in greater prevalence, being also the first cause of dependence in people older than 65 years, in a 60 to 80%, being 7% for people over 65 years of age or 50% for people over 80 years of age, with a national expenditure between the costs of public administrations, such as private own more than 24,000 million euros per year, as well said Rubén Carrión, "these data and especially the trend, really scares"
The excitement came later with the musical and dance show offered by several groups of students from the Campoamor de Alcantarilla School, who collaborated all morning with the users of the Center, elderly people with this terrible disease, who delighted and put on a magnificent note of warmth, of love and illusion to all those present.
They themselves went later to their different spaces to teach us the work that together with the students they have been developing and to show the great work of sensitization to authorities and people who gathered for this IV Open Day Conference of the AFADE Day Center.
Finishing the morning visiting the facilities, giving them to know, envisioning the exhibition of photographs with the activities they develop and getting to know the different therapeutic areas they have for the care of these patients and the last extension that the Center has made.
All the speeches had a common denominator on the part of the authorities-, the gratitude for the work of AFADE Alcantarilla and the effort made since the constitution of the Association by its president, Julia Fernández, who thanked the institutions present for having attended the call and continue to provide them with this week full of activities.
The Mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, said that "AFADE is the example of different realities that are evident in this Association." AFADE's objective awakens affection, sensitivity and support, and never better this type of conference as the motto of this year we are aware of the important work that AFADE has been doing since 1999, constituting, from its first steps in the attention for different areas of Sewer one year later and with these magnificent facilities since 2013. There we will be as always supporting these initiatives. the directive work of the association, of the families that integrate it and of the professionals who lend their knowledge to improve day after day the attention that is given ".
Alcantarilla, is a municipality with a large number of users, thanks to the fact that there are very few towns that have the opportunity to have three day centers, one regional IMAS in the Senior Center "Diego Cubillana", the municipal, our Center "Pedro Hernández Caballero" and in that of AFADE.
In this celebration of the World Alzheimer's Day of 2018, AFADE Alcantarillase adds, how could it be otherwise, to the campaign developed from CEAFA on the occasion of this special day, under the theme "Alzheimer's Social Concern", for this Friday, September 21, to celebrate the World Alzheimer's Day, an event promoted by the World Health Organization and sponsored by the International Alzheimer Association (ADI) since 1994 with the aim of informing and sensitizing society about this progressive, irreversible degenerative disease of the central nervous system that, only in our country, affects about 4.8 million people between those who suffer directly and their family caregivers.
AFADE within the activities, will hold today Friday, September 21, at 8:00 pm, a Dance Charity Gala, which as every year, generously and solidary offers the Dance Academy of María Dolores Riquelme, at the Cultural Center " Infanta Elena "of Sewer, with a price of five euros the entrance, as every year, finding the tickets for sale in said Center and in said Academy, to which they hope to have the largest number of people and thus also see the work that is held.
The activities began last Wednesday with the placement of informative and petitions tables for the urban area of ​​Alcantarilla and will end on Friday, October 5, with the traditional one, in this edition the 18th AFADE Beneficial Dinner.
Having also on Sunday 23 a solidary hiking route, organized by the Walker Group of Murcia and will travel Aledo, Cueva de Mauta and Estrecho de la Agujela, leaving at nine thirty in the morning and back around half past two.
At present, AFADE-Alcantarilla develops 4 blocks of Services: Day Stays, Home Care, Family Care and General Services of the Entity. Among all its services, 93 are affected by Alzheimer's disease and other Dementias, and 34 family members / caregivers, those that are attended annually on average.
The team of professionals of AFADE-Alcantarilla is composed of 20 professionals, among whom are the Director, Coordinator, Social Worker, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapists, Social Integrator, Nurse, Podiatry, Health Assistants, etc.
Specifically, the AFARE-Alcantarilla Day Care Therapy Center, which specializes in the treatment and care of people, serves an average of 70 people each year.
Currently, there are 56 people served in the center, of which 33 enjoy a public square thanks to the System of Attention to Dependence of the CARM.
For AFADE, "although there are many public places available to AFADE-Alcantarilla, they are still few to meet the existing demand of users who demand to occupy one of these places, since currently the AFADE-Sewer Center is configured as a regional reference in the treatment and care of people affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias ".
