Full Sewer City Council to replace traffic lights lamps, so far from incandescent or halogen type, led by technology (04/05/2010)

The Department of Urbanism and Environment in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety, responding to sustainability commitments reflected in the Charter of Aalborg + 10 and the Local Agenda 21, Sewell has completed replacement throughout the municipality, the optical light 1,439 lamps with incandescent or halogen type, LED technology, part of the IDEA Program supports energy-saving purposes.

The traffic lights work on a permanent basis, resulting in a high power consumption to be fitted with incandescent lamps or halogen type.

LED technology is being introduced for use in traffic lights because of the significant energy savings can be obtained (about 80 by 100 to reduce consumption) and traffic safety that this technology brings both greater reliability and durability (multiple points of light cast minimize all), for the best luminance perceived by the human eye.

The most common model of traffic lights, consume an average of 1,230 kWh / year of electricity, however the optical type LEDs consume only 220 kWh annually.

By adapting the traffic lights to LED technology in the town of Sewell, a saving of 230,000 kWh of electricity per year and reducing air emissions of 150 tonnes of CO2 over the same period.

Also, from the economic point of view, this measure, there is a saving of nearly 25,000 per year.
