are aware that Alzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dementia, accounting for up to 70% of cases.

In Spain there are 1,200,000 people affected by the disease and about 5,000,000 people between them and their family caregivers. "

In this celebration of World Alzheimer's Day 2017, AFADE Alcantarillase adds, as it could not be otherwise, to the campaign developed since CEAFA on the occasion of this special day, having a double objective;

on the one hand, to sensitize Spanish society about this "21st century epidemic", as well as its socio-health consequences;

and on the other hand, develop a health education campaign aimed at promoting the prevention of this pathology, which affects more than 4.5 million people in Spain, between those who suffer directly and their family caregivers.

The promotional slogan of this year is: "I remain Yes I", intending to go one step further and give relevance to an axis as fundamental as "hidden" so far: people diagnosed with early or mild Alzheimer's whose vision, experience , knowledge, concerns, needs, opinions ... should be taken into account when planning any specific action in this area.

With this slogan, they also aim to give visibility and maintain the dignity of the person behind the disease, since the diagnosis does not change the person, but changes our society.

People affected by Alzheimer's continue to be active members of our society, and therefore have much to say.

Because Alzheimer's can erase memories, but it does not erase the person who has been, who is and who will be.
