Paco Cascales and the Eusebio Martínez school receive recognition on the Day of People with Disabilities (03/12/2020)

| Three students from the special education center have made a music video in collaboration with the rapper 'El Jopo' and the DJ Raver Sound, available at YouTube | The City Council of Alcantarilla today celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with the delivery of a special recognition to the recent graduate in Physiotherapy from the University of Murcia, Paco Cascales, and to the Public College of Special Education Master D.

The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, wanted to "recognize the merit, courage and effort made by all people with disabilities, as well as professionals who work to improve their integration into a society that is increasingly aware of diversity and of the commitment that we must all adopt for inclusion and universal accessibility in order to leave no one behind.

" Paco Cascales has recently become the first person in Spain with profound deafness who has graduated from university without the help of technical means such as cochlear implants.

His time at the University of Murcia has led to the adaptation of the center to the needs of students like him and his effort has earned him the recognition of the Presidency of the Government and the City Council of Alcantarilla, his hometown. The Colegio de Educación Especial Maestro Eusebio Martínez has been distinguished "for its extraordinary work in the education of children with disabilities and the dedication of its professionals, which have made it a benchmark in special education since its creation in 1991," he stressed.

The City Council of Alcantarilla has been celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities for the last four years with activities in schools and institutes, musical performances, conferences between professionals and users of associations, groups and training centers to generate a new relationship model based on equality, which this year had to be suspended because of the pandemic. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was declared in 1992 by the General Assembly of the United Nations to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all areas of society.
