The Mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, signed the purchase with the painter's son and legitimate owner, Antonio Ballester Les Ventes.

The works are deposited in the Municipal Historical Archive and the City Council will create an exhibition space to contemplate the artist's work. Buendía highlighted "the quality of the works of this painter who was born in Alcantarilla and who shows in his sketches, drawings and pictures huertanas scenes, popular festivals in Murcia, the Cathedral, nudes, religious works and sketches for stained glass windows of shops and churches". The collection acquired by the City Council consists of 1,162 drawings, previous sketches, etchings and lithographs on original paper, cardboard and cardboard by Mariano Ballester, which his son cataloged and documented from the artist's death in 1981 to the present day.

The amount of the work has been 85,000 euros. Biography Mariano Ballester (Alcantarilla 1916-Murcia 1981) received the title of teacher (1936) and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Madrid) thanks to a grant from the Provincial Government (1941-1948).

He was awarded a scholarship by the French Institute to continue his studies in Paris and exhibited in Switzerland and France.

In 1955 he received the National Engraving Prize.

He was a professor at the Murcia School of Arts and Crafts.

He founded the Puente Nuevo group in 1960, together with Ceferino Moreno and César Arias, which emerged with the need for an artistic renewal, the introduction of new avant-garde experiences and a break with traditional Spanish painting. He received the Villacís Prize (1963) and the Ciudad de Murcia Prize (1969).

He was director of the Huerta de Alcantarilla Museum.

His work has been exhibited in Murcia, Madrid, Paris and the USA. The Museum of the Huerta de Alcantarilla hosted last year a retrospective exhibition on his work.

The City Council has several paintings by the artist exposed in the Municipal Historical Archive "Casa Cayitas" and in the Mayor's Gallery on the first floor of the Town Hall.
