The XIV Pediatrics Conference concludes in Murcia (28/10/2019)

During the event, aimed at fostering the continuing education of the health professional, more than 50 pediatricians were able to discover the latest developments in children's nutrition

Organized nationwide, more than 1,200 pediatricians from all over Spain have attended them since its creation in 2007

For 14 consecutive years, Murcia has become the headquarters of the pediatric sector thanks to the XIV Conference of Pediatrics sponsored by the Hero Institute of Child Nutrition in Murcia, whose closing took place yesterday Friday October 25.

Organized and endorsed by the Spanish Association of Pediatrics and directed by Dr. Manuel Sánchez-Solís, Head of Pediatrics at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, these conferences have brought together more than 50 pediatricians from all over Spain in the Region.

Created in 2007, during these 14 years more than 1,200 pediatricians from all over Spain have gone through the Pediatrics Conference to continue their training and be aware of the latest developments in child nutrition.

On this occasion, the facilities of Hero España have welcomed more than 50 pediatricians on October 24 and 25, where they have had the opportunity to attend numerous conferences and workshops led by a large cast of renowned health and pediatric professionals Spanish who have contributed scientific information on the latest developments, as well as personal improvement advice on topics of pediatric scientific interest.

After the inaugural event chaired by Manuel Sánchez-Solís and Javier Uruñuela, General Director of Hero for Southern Europe;

Dolo Iniesta, Responsible for Communication, began the Conference citing the latest developments on advances in Child Nutrition;

followed by Dr. Guillermo Álvarez Calatayud, deputy doctor of the General University Hospital Gregorio Marañón and President of the Spanish Society of Prebiotics and Probiotics, who starred in a presentation on the intestinal microbiota.

Next, a series of parallel workshops took place in which attendees could learn more about scientific issues such as food allergies, guided by Dr. Luis Blesa, President of the Valencian Society of Pediatrics, or the nutrition of infants who were premature, taught by Dr. David Gil Ortega;

and others of a more sociological nature such as the different ways to communicate more efficiently with family members, by Dr. María Luisa Arroba, Pediatrician of the Pozuelo Madrid health center and associate professor of Pediatrics at the Complutense University of Madrid.

During the second stage of these Days, Dr. Cecilia Martínez Costa, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Valencia and Head of the Pediatrics Service of the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia, analyzed the current situation on the consumption of sugars in the Infant population;

and finally, Dr. Pilar Codoñer Franch, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Valencia and Head of the Pediatrics Service of the University Hospital Dr. Peset Universitat de València, focused on circadian rhythms and nutrition.

An olympic closing

The closing of the Conference ran from the account of Blanca Manchón, windsurfer 6 times world champion and representative of Spain in the next Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, who offered a true motivational speech of self-improvement, explaining to the attendees the challenges to that throughout his career he has had to face himself as an athlete and as a mother, and reminding everyone of the importance of having health professionals like them, qualified and trusted.

Finally, the Head of Pediatrics of the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, Manuel Solís, and Dr. José Valverde Molina, representing the Spanish Nutrition Association, concluded the event.
