The VI Course of the International University of the Sea at the Sewer Air Base ends (20/06/2019)

After four intense days at the Sewer Air Base, the students successfully completed the VI Course of the International University of the Sea, entitled "Parachuting: History, Teaching and Research".

A course of 25 hours that has been, for six years, within the calendar of summer courses presented by the University of Murcia and the International University of the Sea (UNIMAR) in collaboration with the Sewer Air Base, in which offers its university students and people interested in the history of skydiving a tour of its history, teaching methods and continuous research in the parachuting field.

In this sixth edition, a score of students participated in the daily activities that take place in this Unit, from the 17th until today, June 20, 2019. The participating students have been able to experience the same sensations that the paratroopers have during their training period. as such, both in the automatic opening simulators (launch and descender tower), as the virtual reality simulator with open bell, in the manual opening mode (PARASIM), and the feeling of free fall in the wind tunnel.

They have seen in situ the folding and maintenance of the parachutes and equipment, the aircraft that are used (T12-B Aviocar), belonging to the 721 Air Force Squadron, for parachute launches.

They have also passed through the Parachute Sappers Squadron (EZAPAC) and the Air Force Parachute Patrol (PAPEA), where they have witnessed the frenetic pace they carry out daily for their training and training, as well as other activities paratroopers and visits to facilities of the Unit that have awakened in them the curiosity of the students attending, and have even been able to make a trip back in time through the Historical Hall, from the beginnings of parachuting to the present.

This year, the course has been closed by Mr. Coronel of the Sewage Air Base D. Fco. Javier Fernández, the Director of UNIMAR Dª.

Mª J. Portillo Navarro and the Doctor and the Professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the UM Mr. Ignacio Martínez González-Moro.

The closing ceremony began with a few words from Colonel Fernández who appreciated the attendance of the students and wished that the passage through this military unit would have been profitable.

Words that were joined by Professor and Doctor Mr. Ignacio Martínez, who once again thanked from the heart the welcome received from this Air Base, as well as the professionalism, the good work and the personal and human quality of those who participated in the VI Course.

Finally, after the delivery of the corresponding titles to the students, the UNIMAR Director said: "Although I have been a director for a short time, I am aware that this course has become a classic course among the courses we offer", who He added "... and I would like to extend my congratulations, not only to the Colonel, but also to all the personnel that you have under his command for the good management of this course.

And we are already with the preparations for the seventh course to be taught next year, which I hope to continue attending for many years. "

The aim of this course is none other than to transfer to the university students the scientific, technical and historical knowledge associated with skydiving, especially about its teaching and its repercussions, to make known the different types of skydiving and the material used in the training of Parachutists, show the peculiarities of the different Parachute Units and analyze new possibilities of collaboration between the University and the Military School of Parachuting.
