Development will study to reduce the height of the caisson structure planned for the arrival of the AVE in Las Tejeras to avoid the isolation of the neighborhood from the urban area (12/05/2019)

The PSOE proposed to the technicians of the Ministry that takes advantage of the works of extension to three lanes of the highway of El Palmar to prolong the false tunnel of the High Speed guaranteeing the permeability of the passage of pedestrians and the traffic rolled by the district

The Socialist candidate for mayor of Alcantarilla, Francisco Saavedra, and the former mayor, Pedro Manuel Toledo, have held a meeting in Madrid with Pedro Saura, deputy for Murcia in Congress, and with technicians from the Ministry of Development, which have addressed two crucial issues for the future of railway infrastructures as they pass through the town.

The first point of the closed work agenda for this meeting, focused on the socialist delegation to present an alternative to the arrival of the AVE in the neighborhood of Las Tejeras that meets the demands of the Platform The Train Out of Sewer and the Association of Neighbors of Las Tejeras.

The second item on the agenda was shortening the bidding deadlines for the study of the variant of the Chinchilla-Cartagena line, which will allow the train to stop passing through Entrevías starting in two halves the urban area.

Saavedra and Toledo were responsible for explaining to the technicians of Development the alternative to the current project of arrival of the High Speed to the neighborhood of Las Tejeras posed by the PSOE after consulting with engineers.

The Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (Adif) foresees that the AVE enters the Sewer on the surface from Nonduermas to the Camino de Los Soldados and then exits in a trench to the Camino de Los Romanos.

Once reached the level crossing of the Camino de Los Romanos, which is in Las Tejeras, will start a structure similar to a concrete box, with a slope that will start with a meter and twenty centimeters high to exceed five meters.

The option that the candidate and the former mayor proposed, would consist, firstly, in expanding the 995-meter false tunnel that Adif plans to run past the Jacinto Benavente school and that will extend to the Las Tejeras neighborhood.

Secondly, this alternative project proposes to minimize as much as possible the height of the aforementioned caisson structure that begins to rise above the public highway, from the level crossing of the Camino de Los Romanos to the Termino street, and that eventually will become an artificial wall that will isolate the neighborhood of the urban area.

"Prolonging the structure of the false tunnel and lowering the height of the box as much as possible, would guarantee the permeability of the pedestrian crossing and road traffic between the Las Tejeras and Campoamor neighborhoods," defends Francisco Saavedra.

Both the platform and the neighborhood association have the entire legislature concentrating, once a week, on the level crossing of the Camino de Los Romanos to show its rejection of the cited structure.

The alternative that the PSOE has proposed to the Ministry aims to respond to the demands of both groups and supports its viability in the expansion works of two to three lanes of the MU-30 (El Palmar highway).

The engineers who have advised the socialist delegation that traveled to Madrid, point out that the level at which the height of the AVE drawer structure was lowered would have to be applied in the same proportion to the MU-30, reducing it in practice to the same level.

The pedestrian crossing would cost 3 million

"The works to extend the highway have not started yet and the project could be modified to make our High Speed alternative feasible, preventing the Las Tejeras neighborhood from being isolated", underlines Pedro Manuel Toledo.

For his part, the mayoral candidate advances hopefully that "Fomento promised to study this alternative and gave us the green light to address the State Roads Demarcation to raise the project."

If the caisson structure is executed, as is currently planned by Adif, it would be necessary to provide a pedestrian crossing for the neighbors because the AVE would cross the neighborhood without burying and this action would entail a cost of 3 million euros, which would have to be financed in a three-way agreement between the City Council, the Autonomous Community and the Ministry of Development.

The tender will be reduced six months

The second point that was addressed during the working meeting with Development was the Sewer and Javalí variant to get the rail line from the Entrevías area.

In January of this year, the Government of Spain put out to tender for 315,350 euros the informative study of 'Urban integration of the Chinchilla-Cartagena line in Sewer and New Javalí'.

The tender process covers a period of 24 months, but the socialist candidate for mayor, Francisco Saavedra, highlights that "we took the commitment of the deputy Pedro Saura to reduce the tender term in six months, so that it only lasts one year and medium, because for us it is important that during the next legislature work begin to take the train from the center of the town and allocate the land that will be released to an urban forest.

The technicians of the Ministry confirmed to the socialist delegation that moved to the capital of Spain, that the variant will have a length of 7.5 kilometers and will start between Javalí Nuevo and Las Torres, extending almost parallel by the highway A-7 until the La Paz Service Area.

In this way, the Chinchilla-Cartagena line will stop crossing the hamlet of Javalí and Alcantarilla.

"The PP committed this legislature to organize a trip to Madrid with a representative of each municipal group to make a common front on rail issues because of the importance they have for Alcantarilla, but did nothing," laments Saavedra.

"For my team the needs of the neighbors are our priorities and we still have no elected office, I think we have demonstrated this maxim by organizing a meeting with the Ministry and traveling to Madrid."
