Alcantarilla signs a collaboration agreement with Unicef Spanish Committee (10/12/2018)

This morning, in the Tapestry Hall of the City of Cartagena, the presentation of the new towns of Murcia that have been recognized as "Child Friendly Cities" by the Unicef Spanish Committee, including Sewer, took place.

The act, which was chaired by the President of the Committee of Unicef in Murcia, Amparo Marzal, has attended the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Education, Juan Manuel Gómez.

After the interventions of the Mayor of Cartagena and the President of Unicef Murcia, which has highlighted the previous analysis and diagnosis carried out by our municipality in its project, the representatives of the municipalities recognized as "Child Friendly Cities 2018- have taken the floor. 2022. "

Gómez in his speech thanked the excellent work done by the municipal technicians of the areas that have participated in the project and said that "the realization of the analysis and previous diagnosis allowed us to know the starting point, the actual situation of Sewer from the one that we started as well as allowed us to identify the weaknesses, threats, strengths and opportunities of our municipality, and we wanted to make this analysis with the collaboration of the children of our municipality since they always bring a very different vision to that of the adults, they are able to see something that adults miss.

Subsequently, the preparation of the Municipal Plan for Children and Adolescents was addressed through a process of citizen participation in which all our neighbors could contribute their opinions and proposals.

Special importance was given to the educational centers and the opinion of the children and young people who study in them.

We are aware that we have to listen to children, they are our most precious value and we have to make them part of the decision-making process, especially those that directly affect them and their future.

A new stage is now opening.

We all know that the easy thing is not to arrive, but to stay and we must continue working in favor of children since it is in everyone's interest.

I am convinced that this will be done and that this special recognition that Alcantarilla has received for the first time, will not be the only one. "

Subsequently, the agreement was signed, which was established in section 3.3.9 of the "Friendly Cities for Children" 2017-2018 program.

With this signature the ratification of the recognition of Sewer as "Child Friendly City" for the period 2018-2022 takes place, having to present the City Council, within two years, an intermediate report in which it takes into account the indications made by Unicef Spanish Committee.

In the same way information channels are established between both entities as well as the participation of the City Council in awareness campaigns carried out by Unicef Spanish Committee and, in addition, the City Council will promote child participation, coordination between municipalities, educational centers and entities to develop the concept of Global Citizenship.
